Pastor Robert Kayanja preaching "The Secret to Righteousness, Blessing, and Increase"

The Secret to Righteousness, Blessing, and Increase

Why did Jesus come? In his latest message, “The Secret to Righteousness, Blessing, and Increase,” Pastor Robert Kayanja answers that question straight from Scripture and then points us to one man as the pattern for a life of faith: Abraham. It is a message about believing what God says about you, responding the right way, and making room for God to move. Whether you are in Uganda or watching from across the world, it is an invitation to stop settling and start looking where God told His people to look.

1. Redeemed, blessed, and empowered

Some people ask why a born-again Christian should want to prosper or succeed at all. Pastor Robert’s answer was to stop and ask a bigger question: why did Jesus come? He turned to Galatians 3:13-14, where Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us, “that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

From that passage he drew three reasons Jesus died. First, to redeem you, to buy you back and bring you back to God. Second, so that the blessing of Abraham may come to you. Third, so that He may fill you with the Spirit of God through faith. He had the congregation say it together: “I am redeemed. I am blessed and I’m empowered.” The cross was not only about forgiveness. It was about restoring everything God intended for His children.

2. Righteousness is a gift, and obedience is a correct response

The heart of the sermon is Isaiah 51:1-2: “Hearken to me, ye that follow after righteousness… look unto Abraham your father.” Pastor Robert explained that righteousness is not something we earn or buy. “Salvation is the greatest miracle,” he said, because it gives us the righteousness of God. Just as Abraham believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness (Genesis 15:6), “righteousness is a gift of God. When you believe, when you believe, God gives it to you.” It is a position, a right standing before God.

Then he gave one of the clearest definitions of obedience you will hear: “Obedience is a correct response. Disobedience is a wrong response.” God speaks, and the right response is to believe Him. That is why the passage begins with “hearken,” listen. Faith comes by hearing. So Pastor Robert pressed the question again and again: do you believe what God says about you? That you are the righteousness of God in Christ, the temple of the Holy Spirit, the head and not the tail? He reminded the church that the way we speak and act shows whether we really believe it.

He also opened up the picture of “the rock whence ye are hewn.” In Christ, he said, we are not cut away from the rock. Jesus is the Rock, and we are shaped within Him, so the world sees us in God. And “the hole of the pit whence ye are digged” reminds us how far down we were when the Lord came and lifted us out. “You are not going back.”

3. Look unto Abraham: blessing, then increase

Why point to Abraham? Because, as Pastor Robert taught, Abraham is the pattern of a man who received righteousness by faith. Isaiah 51:2 says God “called him alone, and blessed him, and increased him.” Pastor Robert noted that God starts by blessing and then increases, because zero multiplied by a million is still zero: “So he first blesses you, and he increases the blessing.”

He walked through Abraham’s story. In Genesis 12, Abraham responds to God. In Genesis 13:2, Abraham “was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.” In Genesis 14:20, Abraham gave a tithe of all. If you are pursuing righteousness and want to go to another level, Pastor Robert said, look at Abraham. He also shared how the ministry has begun giving away cows to bless people, with a community now planning to give away 100 more. “We are fighting poverty. We are fighting lack,” he said. “My God is here to bless you.”

4. See far, and make room

Abraham was also a man of vision. Jesus said, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad” (John 8:56). Pastor Robert explained that great families are not built because people are strong, but because they are visionary. Jesus told His disciples that many prophets and kings desired to see what they saw and never did (Luke 10:24). “The best is yet to come,” he declared, and he encouraged believers to pray simply, “Lord, open my eyes.”

Finally, he called the church to make room. He pointed to Obed-edom, a Gittite who took the ark of the covenant into his house, and the Lord blessed him and all his household during those three months (2 Samuel 6:11). He also pointed to the Ethiopian official in Acts 8, whose chariot was full of the scroll of Isaiah, yet who made room for Philip to sit with him so he could understand. “Make room for the Holy Ghost. Make room for Jesus,” Pastor Robert said. People who see breakthrough, he explained, are not always the ones who have the most. They are the ones who make room.

Putting it into practice

This message is not only something to hear. It calls for a response. Here are a few simple ways to live it out this week:

  • Say what God says. Write down three things Scripture says about you, such as “I am the righteousness of God in Christ,” and speak them aloud each day.
  • Respond quickly. Think of one thing God has already asked of you, and give Him the correct response: believe and obey.
  • Look unto Abraham. Read Genesis 12 to 15 this week and notice how Abraham believed, walked, and gave.
  • Make room. Clear space in your schedule, your home, and your heart for God’s presence, just as Obed-edom made room for the ark.
